Jackson Shed

This shed was built in 1931 by Robin Jackson, one of motor racing’s leading engineers and tuners at the time.

It became famous as the ‘Robinry’ where drivers could have cars serviced and tuned to the highest possible standards by the small team of engineers that worked there. Robin Jackson, himself a racing driver, specialised in the maintenance of MG cars but was also well known for building ‘specials’ such as the Appleton-Riley and the Bentley-Jackson. Following World War Two, Jackson set up premises locally in Byfleet and continued to work on record-breaking and Grand Prix cars through the 1940s and '50s.

Lorraine Dietrich Vieux Charles III

This car is the sole survivor of the French team entry for the 1912 Dieppe Grand Prix.

This car raced in the fourth ever Grand Prix, held in France in 1912. Later that year Victor Hémery brought the car over to Brooklands and proceeded to set three Brooklands British Class ‘A’ records which have never been broken.

After the First World War, renowned British racing driver Malcolm Campbell brought the car back from France as part of his team of Blue Bird racing cars. In 1920, he won the first race held at Brooklands after its closure for the First World War in this very car. The car continued to race competitively at Brooklands into the 1930s

This car is the second of four single-seaters of this type built by designer and builder Geoffrey Taylor in the 1930s. Its original owner, Hugh Curling Hunter, sent the chassis to Robin Jackson who built a more streamlined body for it in this shed.

Hunter competed in races on the Brooklands Campbell Circuit in this Alta including the 1938 International Trophy. In this car, he also won the coveted Brooklands 120mph badge.
