About Agios Nikolaos

An international cosmopolitan seaside resort, attracting thousands of visitors every year. The lake, the town’s jewel, is known for its many legends, according to one of which, Athena and Artemis are bathing in its waters. The lake becomes one with the sea through a narrow canal, and is surrounded by red rock formations and lush vegetation.

Numerous legends surround the Lake, the crown jewel of the city, which dominates its centre with its imposing beauty. Some legends suggest that it is bottomless and others that goddesses Athena and Artemis used to bathe in the lake under the moonlight, away from the eyes of the mortals. Another popular myth is that the lake is connected to the volcano of Santorini through an underground passage. At the end of WWII, the fleeing German army dropped cannons and armoured vehicles into the lake.

The port of Agios Nikolaos is located at the very heart of the city. It follows the coastline of the capital of the municipality and is surrounded by cafeterias, shops with souvenirs and local products and various hotels and apartments. The port is actually a harbour (about 200m in length) near the larger ports of Greece and Turkey and a favourite destination for cruise liners in the south-eastern Mediterranean available for docking throughout the year.

The Marina features a total capacity of 255 berths on conAgios Nikolaos and floating pontoons, with dry docking facilities for 165 boats with a travel lift, the marina provides all the modern facilities and services you expect from a modern EU standard marina, whether you choose to spend a night or a lifetime. In addition, extras like fast Wi-Fi coverage to all berths and locations, a business center for the tireless, on-site laundry machines and other conveniences and with the local Port Police office just a short walk away.
