Lascaux IV is the International Centre for Cave Art in Montignac, Dordogne, opened in 2016 as the most complete and exact replica of the original Lascaux cave, which has been closed to the public since 1963 to protect its fragile prehistoric paintings.
Four teenagers stumbled upon the original Lascaux cave, revealing over 600 painted and engraved figures dating back about 21,000 years (Magdalenian period).
Closure (1963): Due to damage from light, humidity, and carbon dioxide, the cave was sealed to preserve the art.
