Loubressac

Loubressac is a hilltop commune in the Lot department of Occitanie, southwestern France, perched above the left bank of the Bave river and offering panoramic views across the Dordogne valley and neighbouring plateaux.

Loubressac has Gallo-Roman toponymic roots (derived from a personal name Lupercius with the Gallic suffix -ac) and developed as a fortified castrum in the medieval period; the village core and parish were relocated onto the plateau in the later Middle Ages under local lords such as the baron of Loubressac.

Loubressac is classed among France’s attractive rural villages and has received floral awards (Concours des villes et villages fleuris), while the American poet Sylvia Plath wrote “Stars over the Dordogne” during a stay in the area in 1961; the village has also been used as a film Loubressac.
