About Câmara de Lobos

One of the first impressions upon arriving at the sea village of Câmara de Lobos is the view of many small colourful boats docked at the bay, as fishing is its main activity. No wonder Winston Churchill chose to paint this beautiful sight during his stay in Madeira in January 1950.

lose to the pier you will find many bars and restaurants, where you can try typical drinks, such as poncha, and taste the famous espetada and the black scabbard fish. During the weekend the narrow streets outside the bars are full of people socialising and enjoying their drinks.

The summer months, with the celebrations of Saint Peter and the Black Scabbard Fish Festival, are particularly lively in this village. The Carnival Parade is another event that fills Câmara de Lobos with colour, music and joy.
