About Portsmouth Harbour
One of the most exciting harbour Cities in the world, Portsmouth is a successful and quite spectacular melting pot of old and new, with modern architectural masterpieces sitting virtually side by side with historic wonders of the nautical world. Understandably life in the City revolves around the magnificent harbour with its famous 500year old dockyard. Home to numerous legends of the sea including HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose you can also take the ultimate underwater safari at the award winning Blue Reef Aquarium or visit the distinctly space-aged Spinnaker Tower.

The name Spice Island comes from the area's seedy reputation, as it was known as the "Spice of Life". Men were easily found and press-ganged into Nelson'sn avy from Portsmouth Point due to its hostelries and for being where prostitutes plied their trade.

www.visitportsmouth.co.ukGunwharf Quays is a shopping centre located in Portsmouth, UK. It was constructed on the site of what had once been HM Gunwharf, Portsmouth. This was one of several such facilities which were established around Britain and the Empire by the Board of Ordnance, where cannons, ammunition and other armaments were stored, repaired and serviced ready for use on land or at sea. Later known as HMS Vernon, the military site closed in 1995, and opened to the public as Gunwharf Quays on 28 February 2001[1] after six years of reconstruction (which included the restoration of some of the surviving 18th and 19th-century Gun Wharf buildings). The landmark Spinnaker Tower, which stands close to the site on pilings in Portsmouth Harbour, was opened on 18 October 2005.
