About Jardim Botanico

One of the most beautiful gardens in the Region, with wonderful views over the city of Funchal, is located in one of the most peculiar Quintas in the city, Quinta do Bom Sucesso. This place dates back to 1881, owned by the Reid family, who created the garden as their private park and is now open to the public.

The garden covers an area of 80,000 m², is home to a fascinating collection of more than 2,500 plants, approximately 300 species of exotic birds, 200 plants characteristic of the region and has a research and conservation area. Visitors may find everything from Madeira endemic species to succulents, palms, aromatic and medicinal herbs, among others.

Besides all the attractive features mentioned, the Botanical Garden also has a Natural History Museum and a cable car connecting it to the parish of Monte.
